Entrepreneurs typically spend a LOT of time focused on their business. The idea of working less without sacrificing profit can feel impossible when you are in the daily thick of things, but I am here to tell you that you can work less and earn more. I am living proof that it is possible. I will share a few of my success secrets and tell you how I learned to work smarter, not harder.

Build a Team

It would help if you let go of the idea that you have to do something yourself for it to be done right. This is a pervasive way of thinking for entrepreneurs! However, this attitude can quickly cause your downfall by limiting your scalability. As a result, you get stuck in a growth rut that makes it impossible to earn more.

I’ve surrounded myself with a phenomenal team, each working on the tasks that they do best. I understand it takes a lot of work to let go and find the right people for the job. I’ll admit it didn’t happen overnight – but I built my dream team through trial and error.

I started small, finding one person I trusted to work a few part-time hours each week. I saw the results and built from there as my profitability grew. When everyone works together doing what they do best, you focus on your core talents — being an Interior Designer! Trust me, your pipeline will thank you, and this is a great way to work less and earn more!

Leverage Technology

Manual, monotonous tasks are another entrepreneur trap. Your small business is driven by design and creativity, yet I know those repetitive, time-sucking obligations monopolize your time. Utilizing automation frees up your time, allowing you to shift your focus to supporting your existing clients and finding new ones!

I started with free or low-cost versions of applications to get a feel for how they improved efficiency and productivity. I then upgraded or switched platforms as my profits increased. As my business grew, I invested in platforms that automated much of my workload, and I’ve never looked back, taking me to where I am today.

Thanks to taking the first step of leveraging technology, I no longer waste my time or energy on low-value tasks. Again, it took time to happen. But remember, you can only finish if you start. And the goal is to work less and earn more!

Evaluate Your Pricing

Entrepreneurs often make the mistake of charging way below their worth, believing it will help them attract clients. By starting out this way, you end up eating into profits – or worse – never seeing profitability, period. There are more savvy ways to run a business.

Trends change. People change. Therefore, I consistently review my pricing and my product and service offerings. This is a MUST.

Be confident in the value you offer customers and consider what your ideal client is looking for TODAY. Become the solution to their problem, and you will prove your worth! Above all, ensure your estimates include everything and don’t undervalue you.

The Bottom Line

Your earnings should reflect your worth and the unique service you provide — including your time, talent, experience, expertise, and knowledge. That’s a valuable commodity, and your prices should reflect it!  You can earn more AND work less by increasing your profit margin on each design project. Start building a team of knowledgeable and helpful staff. Use automation to reduce those low-value tasks. Increase your confidence in your services to ensure your pricing reflects your expertise.
