Build Your Business Building Body Language ~ Nancy Ganzekaufer

As you begin your journey into 2021, this is the perfect time to learn new strategies for finding success in the coming year. For instance, do you know how to build your business using body language? This is an essential skill for enhancing your sales and marketing efforts.

Confident body language is an important part of effective business communication. By gaining a deeper understanding of its impact, you will discover how to become attractive to potential clients. And even better, you will develop a more authentic picture of who you are and how others see you!

Let’s look at a few key components of effective, business-building, body language practices.

Eye contact beats any conversation.

~Christina Strigis

How does it make you feel when someone avoids looking you in the eye? If you are like most people, it causes you to raise your defensive walls.

Studies show that a lack of eye contact conveys a message of dishonesty or a lack of self-confidence. And neither of these implications bodes well for a positive business conversation.

If you find it difficult to make eye contact with confidence, you are not alone. Many others share your apprehension. However, you can try practicing with the people you feel most comfortable with. Or, you can plan ahead. Figure out what you want to say after your first greeting so you will have more confidence going into the conversation.

By learning to make eye contact with your potential client, you help them to build trust in you and your business.

Smile. It enhances your face value.

~Dolly Parton

Have you ever spoken with someone over the phone who was clearly not smiling? If so, you know the difference it makes in the tone and meaning of any message.

It can be hard to muster a smile when you are having a difficult day… I get it! But having a smile on your face can make the difference when it comes to making a sale or pitching your services, even over the phone!

Smiling shows optimism and enthusiasm. And you want to be sure to convey both to your potential clients! A smile will help others connect with you and can create a welcoming feel to any conversation.

So be sure and put a smile on your face before any client interaction! This is another terrific way to use body language to build your business.

If I asked you what you think people notice about you first, what would you say? Most people think it is either the eyes or the face.

Believe it or not, people subconsciously notice your hands first. This may sound strange, but your hands are a significant part of the first impression you make on others. And it only takes an average of 7 seconds for that opinion to form!

Therefore, visible hands, along with a firm and confident handshake (when possible), is crucial to starting any in-person conversation. Your hands convey your intentions. If they are hidden (behind your back, in your pocket) they send the message that you are not trustworthy.

Visible hands reflect that you are open, honest, and sincere. Your hands are another useful gateway to building your business with body language.

Your body communicates as well as your mouth. Don’t contradict yourself.

~Allen Ruddock

By taking these three body language practices into account, you will enhance your sales and marketing outcomes. Body language is a tool that – when used properly – can make a significant difference in the growth and profitability of your business.

In any conversation, be sure that your body language is conveying the same message as the words you are saying. Sending a mixed message can quickly undermine your efforts. But when you are in alignment, you will experience greater overall success!

Put all three into practice today. You can successfully grow your client base, increase your profit margin, and build your business with body language techniques.
